Texas Attorney General office investigates political group for bribing democrats
“I just launched an investigation into Beto O’Rourke's radical group for unlawfully funding runaway Democrats,” Paxton said on social media. “Any Democrat coward breaking the law by taking a Beto Bribe will be held accountable.”
The group in question, Powered by People, is a political action committee (PAC) founded by O’Rourke. Paxton's office is reviewing whether the PAC illegally financed Democratic members of the Texas House who left the state to prevent a quorum, potentially violating state bribery and campaign finance laws.
“These jet-setting runaways have already lost public trust by abandoning our state,” Paxton added, warning of “aggressive legal action” against those who fail to return to the House of Representatives by the Friday deadline set by the Speaker.
Over the weekend, a large number of Texas House Democrats traveled to Illinois to block a vote on a new congressional redistricting map that could give Republicans up to five additional seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
