Athens Condemns Illegal Seizure of Church Lands
As reported by a daily newspaper, Greek officials have conveyed deep concern about increasing land encroachments by settlers targeting properties owned by the Greek Orthodox Church in the West Bank.
This is especially evident near the historic Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan, located close to the city of Jericho.
The report highlighted that tensions in the Jericho area have escalated over the past two years, notably after October 2023, when Israel launched its destructive campaign in Gaza.
During this period, at least five new settler outposts have reportedly been established in the region, often preceding additional land appropriations.
Furthermore, the article noted that a senior-level meeting took place in Athens to evaluate the situation, focusing on the growth of illegal settlement activities on land governed by the Jerusalem Greek Orthodox Patriarchate.
