Trump Urges Homeless to Leave Washington
His remarks come as rising concerns over criminal activity continue to draw attention, with federal efforts increasingly being implemented.
In a message shared on Truth Social this past Sunday, Trump announced plans to hold a press briefing regarding the situation in Washington, DC.
He stated that the effort to clamp down on crime would take place “very fast.”
Emphasizing urgency, he declared, “The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY,” and mentioned that the administration would arrange accommodations, though “but FAR from the Capital.”
Accompanying his post were photographs showing a makeshift camp near a highway ramp and individuals sleeping outdoors.
The challenge of homelessness remains prominent in the capital.
According to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, approximately 5,138 individuals without stable housing currently live in DC.
In previous years, particularly throughout the 2010s, reports indicated that the number of unhoused people in the area had exceeded 6,000.
Just a week prior, Trump condemned the city's public safety conditions, labeling the level of criminal activity as “totally out of control.”
He alleged that local youth and gangs were targeting residents without fear of consequences.
Trump also warned that if no improvements occur, he might take steps to place the city under federal control in an attempt to reestablish order.
