FM’s of Iran, Armenia exchanges views on recent peace deal
During the call, the officials discussed bilateral relations as well as recent developments in the South Caucasus region. Araghchi expressed support for the peace agreement signed last Friday in Washington between Iran’s northern neighbors, emphasizing Iran’s concerns regarding transport routes and the reopening of transit networks in the area.
He highlighted a provision within the agreement granting the United States exclusive rights to establish and manage a major transit corridor across southern Armenia. This corridor is intended to directly connect Azerbaijan with its exclave of Nakhchivan and subsequently Türkiye. Araghchi stressed that this corridor must not result in any geopolitical shifts in the region or hinder Iran’s access to other transit routes.
