Trump pledges to move homeless people from Washington

(MENAFN) On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump declared his intention to remove homeless people from the nation’s capital. Posting on his social media platform, he stated, "The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY ... We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital." He distinguished between homeless individuals and criminals, saying, "The Criminals, you don't have to move out. We're going to put you in jail where you belong."

Trump justified this action as a response to a rise in crime within Washington, D.C. However, the city’s mayor, Muriel Bowser, disputed this claim. She emphasized that efforts over the past two years have successfully reduced violent crime to its lowest level in three decades. According to reports from local authorities, violent crime decreased by 26 percent during the first seven months of 2025 following a 35 percent drop in 2024, and overall crime rates fell by 7 percent.
