White House Enters TikTok as Trump Deadline Nears
The newly created account shared its first post Tuesday afternoon—a 27-second video featuring clips of President Donald Trump greeting supporters, layered with audio from his 2016 Republican National Convention speech.
Within hours of going live, the account attracted over 57,000 followers. In contrast, the TikTok profile used during Trump’s previous presidential campaign already boasts more than 15 million followers.
During his first term, Trump signed an executive order aimed at banning TikTok in the United States unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, divested its U.S. assets to a domestic entity. However, that directive was halted due to legal opposition and never took effect.
Since taking office again, Trump has issued two 75-day deadline extensions—first on January 20 and again on April 4. Most recently, on June 19, he signed a new executive order granting TikTok a 90-day reprieve, pushing the compliance deadline to September 17, 2025.
