Ukraine Warns: Russia Is Dragging Ghanaians to Their Deaths

(MENAFN) Ukraine's top diplomat fired a direct warning to Ghanaians on Wednesday, urging them to resist Russian recruitment drives that he said are luring African citizens into a deadly war with no path home.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha delivered the stark message during a high-level meeting in Kyiv with his Ghanaian counterpart, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, drawing a sharp contrast between what Moscow and Kyiv each offer the African continent.

"The Russians are dragging Ghanaians to their deaths, while Ukraine offers cooperation for life, opportunities in education and mutually beneficial projects," Sybiha said.

Beyond the recruitment warning, the two ministers engaged in broader discussions centered on reinforcing political dialogue and expanding economic cooperation between the two nations. Sybiha designated Ghana a key strategic partner in West Africa, announcing that Kyiv stands ready to establish a food grain hub on Ghanaian territory — a move he framed as a contribution to global food security and regional stability.

The Ukrainian minister also commended Accra for its principled stance on the war, specifically recognizing Ghana's vote in support of the UN General Assembly resolution entitled "Support for a Sustainable Peace in Ukraine" — a gesture Sybiha described as a meaningful endorsement of Ukrainian sovereignty.

The high-profile meeting signals Kyiv's intensifying push to cultivate deeper alliances across Africa, even as Russia continues to aggressively expand its own influence throughout the continent.
