Israeli Occupier Drives Into West Bank Schoolyard, Chases Students
(MENAFN) An Israeli settler drove his vehicle into the grounds of a school in the West Bank town of Silat ad-Dhahr, south of Jenin, on Tuesday, pursuing students while brandishing a firearm in what witnesses described as a terrifying intrusion — the latest in a string of escalating attacks against Palestinians across the occupied territory.
"The occupier stormed the schoolyard with his vehicle and began pursuing students inside, causing panic among them," witnesses told media.
They added that the individual displayed a weapon on school premises before withdrawing from the area. No injuries were reported.
Footage circulating across social media platforms captured the moment the settler's vehicle entered the schoolyard as students scattered in a desperate bid for safety.
Palestinians in the West Bank say such incidents form part of a deliberate and sustained campaign to drive them off their land and clear the way for further illegal settlement expansion.
Approximately 750,000 Israeli settlers currently reside across 141 illegal settlements and 224 outposts throughout the West Bank, including roughly 250,000 in East Jerusalem — territory the United Nations recognizes as part of the occupied Palestinian lands.
Data released by the Palestinian Colonization & Wall Resistance Commission showed that Israeli forces and settlers carried out 1,637 attacks in April alone. Of those, 540 were attributed to settlers and involved property destruction, the uprooting of thousands of trees, and the seizure of Palestinian-owned land.
Violence across the West Bank has surged steadily since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, with official figures recording at least 1,155 Palestinian deaths, thousands of injuries, and a significant number of arrests in the territory since that time.
In a historic ruling delivered in July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory unlawful and called for the full evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
